The Build
Introduction

Firstly, for all you Corvette restorers out there that are ready to hammer me for "wrecking" a Vette to build Prodigy:- relax.
What we started with, was 2003 Z06 salvage car that was truly a pile of junk, and a sad old '64 body tub that was cut into two pieces because of terminal rust in the birdcage.

My criteria for the donor car was that the chassis, suspension, drive train and electronics all had to be usable or repairable. I was also looking for a low mileage, so at 15K miles, this car fitted the bill nicely.
As bad as it looked we had it started and running so that we could identify any major code issues with the PCM, or BCM. This and other codes would give us some idea of the challenges we were going to face when putting the project back together.
The sad stated of the body meant nothing to me because I didn't plan on using it anyway. It also meant that it was clearly only going to be a parts car, so the price was more attractive also.

Our goal from day one was to produce what we thought the '63 should look like today if GM ever saw fit to produce it. Prodigy is a composite vehicle using a 2003 50th anniversary Z06 Corvette, and grafting an original C2 Stingray body on top of this C5 platform.
7,000 hours were spent to build what you see in front of you today.
Body

The original old Corvette body has been modified to suit the C5 frame. The rear of the body has been widened 10", 6" at the doors, and 8" at the front. This greatly accentuates the coke bottle shape.

Wheel arches have been custom made and radiused to suit the custom made wheels.

Doors lengthened 3", and shape of lower edges has been altered to fit new handmade sills to achieve sharp lines, and reflect the contemporary feel we were striving for.

C5 door handles and mirrors were used. Whilst the C2 door hinges remain, all door internals are C5.

Both the front and rear valances are custom designed and made to suit the look we were after. Grille is a another custom made item, vaguely reminiscent of stock, but like a lot of things on this car, resembling Popeye after he's downed his tin of spinach.

Headlights retain the original buckets, but now have C5 headlight motors installed with more modern HID lamps.

Handmade custom stainless spears were designed and made to suit the revised hood flutes as well as the flutes on the front guards.
Wheels

In keeping with our theme to produce a modern version of a classic design, we worked with Ian Splatt from Dragway Wheels to produce a modern version of the classic knock off wheels used widely in the sixties Corvette. The result is a one off, unique set of billet aluminium wheels,18 x 10's on the rear, and 17 x 9's on the front. Big thanks to Ian and Dragway for this.
Interior

We were striving for a timeless interior that could have been made 50 years ago, or yesterday:- BUT, it needed to incorporate all the modern features of the C5 Corvette. Visible modern plastics were a definite 'no go zone' for this build. We wanted the illusion of the infamous twin pod design used in these old cars, so we set about replicating this design whilst keeping the C5 modern features.

First glance, it looks like a regular '63 interior, but really the only original things from this era, are the clock, speaker cover, and chopped down and modified glove box door. Seats are re-trimmed C5 Z06 from the donor car.
Engine / Driveline

Stock C5 Z06 configuration, featuring a torque tube design, with rear mounted 6 speed M12 Tremec, coupled to a to a 3:42 ratio Gertrac diff. Engine has been fitted with a Kenne Bell twin screw supercharger.

Clutch is an up rated Spec2 twin plate design.
Chassis / Suspension / Brakes

Height and ride adjustable Coil over suspension from Phadt Racing developments handle the dampening.

A full function traction control system is standard, as is the active handling system from the Z06.

Brakes
A premium four wheel disc brake system with ABS is standard from the Z06, but rotors have been upgraded to drilled and slotted.
